Mr. and Mrs. Darcy: A Pride and Prejudice Inspired Board

I read an article once that took a poll asking women which literary figure they would most like to go out with on a date, and Mr. Darcy was the runaway favorite. I love Jane Austen, and no one who has watched the A&E adaptation of Pride and Prejudice can tell me that a man can't look sexy in a cravat. (Here's looking at you, Colin Firth!) So despite my longstanding bias against frilly floral prints--a result of my mother's fixation with Laura Ashley home furnishings during the 80's--I thought I'd give a regency inspired board a shot. I think that choosing a wedding theme can often feel constraining, and if you're going vintage or literary, it's easy to end up with something campy. A little goes a long way, and the right touches can create a cohesive theme without feeling contrived. With an English garden motif, antique books, bridesmaid dresses that nod to regency fashion with empire waists, a soft palette, and the right gown and accessories, this is a contemporary take on the Darcy wedding.

I'm baaaaaack! A Post on Wedding Planning and An Engagement Shoot by Jonathan Roberts

So sorry I've been MIA on the blogging! My sister's wedding is coming up in June, and I'm the lucky gal who gets to be her (amateur) wedding coordinator. Although I've posted mostly inspiration boards, I have to share some photos from her amazing engagement shoot done by the exceptionally talented Jonathan Roberts. Funny story: as I've mentioned before I had originally planned to get married in my fiance's hometown, San Luis Obispo, so I pored over tons of blogs by photographers based in that area. I found Jonathan Roberts and had shared his work with my sister; particularly lots of the tres adorable, super sweet mini-videos he includes in all of his packages. She fell in love, too. A Vintage Hollywood Wedding: A 1930's and Board

I've been a bad, bad blogger...I'm bummed I haven't had a chance to post in the past week, but helping out with my sister's wedding has eaten up my usual blog-joy time! More on that later. Buuuut, I have a new board to post and I'm pumped! I wanted to pull together some elements I've seen from weddings that I love and combine them in a way that was vintage, classic, glamorous, with just the right amount of sexy--and Jean Harlow typifies the classic screen siren.

A Gentler Side of Paradise: Vintage Hawaiian Inspired Wedding

I've only been to Hawaii once, but that was enough to fall madly in love. Although I adore the bold colors and seashell motifs found in most weddings at tropical or beach venues, I thought it would be interesting and unexpected to play with a vintage Hawaiian theme: softer hues, vintage prints, antiqued decor pieces, and touches of crystal contrasting against the natural lushness. I took my inspiration from Hawaii, but I think any beach venue could take a cue from this board.

Mood: A trip to paradise in your grandmother's dress; the Andrews Sisters played with a ukelele

Enchanted Forest Themed Wedding

The woods: there's something about trees lit by tiny lights that speaks to the magic-hungry little girl inside all of us. I wanted to tap into that glittering fairy tale world nestled deep in our psyches in a way that could be easily translated into wedding decor without being overtly kitschy. With the right centerpieces and a few decor items spaced throughout, any outdoor space with lots of trees--or even a properly lighted tent!--could be transformed into an enchanted forest setting. I always wondered how so many crafty people got lights inside grapevine balls without having them attached to a Christmas light string: LED battery powered strings. Soft and Elegant: A Peach and Black Inspiration Board

Yesterday's peach and green board had me thinking of all the possibilities of peach hues and the moods they can create. Adding black and touches of soft pink to a muted peach palette feels both modern and vintage, feminine yet unfussy.

Peachy Keen: A Vintage Farm Inspiration Board in Peach and Green

This board makes me think of listening to a Dixie Chicks song while wearing a peach dress in a classic muscle car. I wanted to capture the sweet freshness of the colors peach and green; the yearning for summer days with a vintage sensibility.
